What it means
WordPress hit a PHP fatal error and stopped loading the page instead of showing a broken one. Since WordPress 5.2 it shows this message and emails the site admin.
Usually caused by
- A plugin or theme update that needs a newer PHP or WooCommerce
- Two plugins clashing after one of them updated
- Your host moved the site to a different PHP version

A blank white page
What it means
Usually the same kind of crash as the critical error, with error messages switched off, so WordPress shows nothing at all.
Usually caused by
- A fatal PHP error with error display turned off
- PHP running out of memory halfway through the page
- A broken or half-updated theme file

Open yoursite.com/wp-admin. If the dashboard still loads, the problem is likely in the theme or a front-end plugin.
Error establishing a database connection
What it means
WordPress can't reach the database that holds your content, so it can't build a single page.
Usually caused by
- Wrong database details in wp-config.php, often after a move
- The database server is down or at its connection limit
- Damaged database tables

Ask your host whether the database server is up. If it is, the problem is on the site side, and that's our part.
500, 502, 503 or 504 error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

What it means
A 500 means the server failed while running your site and hid the reason. The real error is in the server's log.
A 502 means the web server asked PHP for the page and got a broken answer back, usually because PHP crashed partway through.
A 503 means the server is turning visitors away for now: too busy, out of PHP workers, or paused by your host.
A 504 means PHP took too long to answer, so the server stopped waiting. Often a slow plugin, a heavy database query or a call to another service that hangs.

- A broken .htaccess rule or wrong file permissions
- PHP running out of workers or time under load

One request needed more memory than PHP allows, so PHP stopped it halfway.
